We'd hoped to get an early start but didn't manage to get on the road until 08:15.
About an hour into the ride we had our second bout with ran but only for about an hour and it wasn't too heavy. Most of the day we were on what we'd call interstate type highways. The real adventure of the entire trip was toward the end of the day when the GPS took us to the middle of nowhere trying to find our Ibis Hotel in Caen. After of about an hour of riding in circle on two lane, actually 1 1/2 lane country roads, we were able to get a 'fix' on our destination. I couldn't figure out what had happened as I'd entered all of our hotel sites in decimal coordinates and then checked them against the maps on the computer before leaving home. At dinner Sara mentioned that she'd seen a sign that noted we'd crossede the Greenwich Perimer Meridian. That mad we realize that when I entered the coordinates on the Garmin GPS on the bike I'd entered the longitude as West and it should have been East. A learning experience that I'll make of point of discussing when I do a GPS workshop.
We didn't get to our hotel until 19:00 (an hour later than expected) and had dinner before we went to our rooms. A first.
