Day 13 - Amli, Norway

An easy day today as our ferry from Hirtshals, Denmark (15 miles from Else Marie's) to Kristiansand, Norway didn't depart until 12:15.

Couldn't believe the number of vehicles that they carried on the ship. including many caravans, motor homes and buses. The crossing was 3 hours and fifteen  minutes, smooth all the way.

We left Kristiansand at 16:00 and arrived Amli at 17:30. Great roads but all twities.

Very expensive in this part of the world, nearly $40 to fill my 7 gallon tank, $50 for a simple dinner with no alcohol, etc. and that is not in a fancy restaurant.

All part of the adventure.

Day 12 - Uglit, Denmark

This is our second rest day at Else Marie's farm near Uglit. While she was as her shop we rode up to Skagen. It's at the northern tip of Denmark where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea come together. Where the two meet there is always a lot of waves.

The photo of Sara and me shows us with Sara in the North Sea and with me in the Baltic Sea.

Not much rain today but pretty overcast. We are so far North that it never really get dark this time of year. About 11PM it reaches what appears to be dawn. Daylight starts about 04:00.

Tomorrow we'll ride about fifteen miles to Hirtshals, Denmark and catch the ferry to Kristsand, Norway, a three hour crossing. Monday night we'll be staying in Amli, Norway.

Day 11 - Uglit, Denmark

Today is a rest day so we used the morning to do our laundry and give time for the rain to blow East.

For lunch we rode over to Lonstrup and ate at the windmill cafe (don't know the actual name in Danish) but it was a fun place and of course the pasty very good.

We then rode to the Rubjerg Knude, on the North Sea and hiked up to the lighthouse. Well worth the effort.

By then it was time to stop by Else Marie's shop to pick up some linen items. Then it was off to dinner at the Restaurant Lido. The food was good but they refused to accept our Visa Cards as they were 'from the States'. Real BS going on here but a battle we couldn't win.

Back to Else Marie's for dessert.

It's 21:30 and still daylight because we're so far North. Strange.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is another rest day and then the real adventure begins on Monday as we head for Nord Kapp.

Day 10 - Uglit, Denmark

On and off rain showers all day as we headed out of Germany and into Denmark. A couple of times some pretty heavy rain but no for too long. Stopped off at Dronninglund, Denmark to tour Voegaard Castle. Seeing a castle was on Jim's wish list so it was a must. After the castle tour it was only eighteen miles of country roads to Else Marie's farm near Uglit. We'll spend the weekend at the farm before taking the ferry over to Norway.

Day 9 - Neumunster, Germany

Started the day under a blue sky with ran predicted for the afternoon. Within a couple of miles we'd crossed a river and were in the Netherlands, but just for a few miles before crossing another river and then in Germany.

We had 327 miles to ride today but unless there is road construction traffic really moves. Once on the Autobahn things really move. Even posted at 120K  (75mph), which we did, folks would pass us like we were standing still. I'd guess some were going 120 to 130mph.

Stopping early in the day for coffee we saw Franky's Currywurst Stand.  Too early for lunch so down the road Sara had a currywurst for lunch.

Anyhow, we stopped for lunch at a service plaza and were amazed at the quality of the food. A bit different that what you'll find at home.

Tonight we're at Firzlaff's Hotel. Walked over to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. The first on this trip.

Easy day tomorrow riding up to Else Marie Overgaard's farm near Uglit, Denmark. It's only a 269 mile day and she won't be home from her shop until 18:00 so we'll do some sightseeing around Hjorring.

Day 8 - Maaseik, Belgium

Left Paris at 09:15 under blue sky and 71 degrees. Starting North on our adventure. Today we rode t Maaseik, Belgium, for a 273 mile day. Freeway for most of the day with speed limit of 130kph (80mph). With several stops we got here at 15:30, just as planned.
Of all things there was a Pannekeoken Restaurant just up the street from our B&B De Koddige Kater. They had any type of pannekoekens you could think of, even Mexican.

Day 7 - Paris

A nice day in Paris. Light on and off rain but never for very long. Jim found a lock smith to cut two keys for his Triumph motorcycle and I found a gut to repair my tank bag.

The gals went to Versailles while Jim and I did our errands.

Tomorrow start our trip North heading for Nord Kapp. We'll have an easy day, only 272 freeway miles with an overnight at Maaseik, Belgium.
